THE WING CHUN SCHOOL

WE ARE A TRADITIONAL MARTIAL ARTS SCHOOL THAT STRIVES IN MAINTAINING HIGH STANDARDS IN THE ART OF WING CHUN.

The Wing Chun School is where ‘old school’ Kung Fu principles meets ‘new school’ methods. We understand that Martial Arts has evolved and so we adapt to these changes, while still maintaining our traditions. We practice our art form with traditional Chinese etiquettes, which allows our students to experience how Kung Fu is taught in China. Alongside teaching the art of Wing Chun, we emphasise on guiding the Martial Artist on their journey of self discovery.

‘A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step’

WHICH MARTIAL ARTS SHOULD I LEARN?

If you’re interested in learning Martial Arts, it is essential for you to do your own research and decide which style is most suitable for you.

If you like striking with the hands, then you may want to consider Boxing. If you like kicking, then you may enjoy Muay Thai. If you don’t like striking and prefer grappling, then Brazilian Jiu-jitsu may be for you. If you like all types of striking and all forms of grappling, then you may prefer Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). There are also Martial Arts systems that only teach weapons like Escrima. Some people prefer a more formal and traditional approach to Martial Arts, like Karate.

With a plethora of styles available, it is important to understand that every Martial Art is unique and beautiful in it’s own way. Every Martial Art has it’s pros and cons. The most important thing you should do before deciding is reflect on what type of practitioner you would like to be. Which method of attack do you prefer? Striking or grappling? Would you like to focus on certain strikes/grappling only or would you like to be well rounded? Do you prefer traditional approaches? Would you like to focus on weapons training? This is a journey of self discovery, so you must learn about yourself first and foremost.

Once you have made up your mind, then you may continue your journey in finding the right teacher.

WHAT IS WING CHUN?

Wing Chun is a traditional Chinese martial arts that is predominantly a striking art with any part of the arms and only kick/knee below the waist. Wing Chun is a fighting system which primarily focuses on close range combat. Practitioners learn to strike from close contact positions with the principles of efficiency and directness. Wing Chun also teaches standing grappling/clinch drills with the intention to trap the arms for striking purposes. Wing Chun does not have any grappling techniques that involve in ground submission, because it prefers to focus on keeping the fight standing and uses defensive techniques to prevent the attacker from taking the fight to the ground.

Wing chun also teaches two weapons styles: ‘八斬刀法 - Eight Slashing Knives’ for short range combat and ‘六點半棍 - Six & A Half Point Pole’ for long range combat.
